VivAgriLab : Linking cities and nearby agricultural and natural ecosystems in the southwest of Île-de-France

"VivAgriLab: Connecting the City and the Natural World in the Southwestern Part of the Île-de-France Region" is a collaborative initiative in which research institutions, local governments, nonprofit organizations, and the agricultural sector work together to test solutions tailored to local conditions in order to meet the needs of the agri-urban areas in the southwestern part of the Île-de-France region: the Plaine de Versailles, the Saclay Plateau, the Triangle Vert, and the urban communities of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Versailles Grand Parc, and the Paris-Saclay Community.
Since 2013, this “Living Lab” approach has brought together all local stakeholder communities around a participatory process that encourages collaborative partnerships and enables the co-creation of innovations addressing the region’s challenges.

VivAgriLab is guided by three objectives to collaboratively develop a regional approach that addresses agri-urban challenges :

Dialogue is the driving force behind action. VivAgriLab is a forum for exchange that fosters cooperation, facilitates the sharing of perspectives, and transforms individual challenges into collective, innovative projects tailored to the specific characteristics of the region.

Taking into account the existing interactions between natural, agricultural, forested, and urban areas fosters interdisciplinarity. VivAgriLab supports the development and co-creation of applied research projects by drawing on local stakeholder communities and their needs.

Promoting local initiatives, research findings, and their replicability enables local stakeholder communities to stay informed about ongoing work and gives them the opportunity to support changes in practices. As a Living Lab, VivAgriLab is a process of continuous improvement that evolves to address the questions and expectations of its partners.

Financial support by LEADER
For decades, the South-West of the Île-de-France region has hosted a large number of research organizations and universities in life sciences (agriculture, biodiversity, climate). Thus there is a historic cooperation between researchers and local stakeholders in our territory. Since 2007, nearly fifteen scientific projects, some of which are co-financed by the European agricultural funds LEADER, have emerged on the Plaine de Versailles and the Plateau de Saclay as part of the Living "VivAgriLab: linking cities and nearby agricultural and natural ecosystems in the southwest of the Île-de-France region". They were able to emerge thanks to the establishment of solid partnerships and the regular organization of meetings, in particular with C-BASC which brings together 13 laboratories from AgroParisTech, INRAE, CNRS, CEA, Paris Sud and Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Universities. This project received €7,000 in funding from the CEA, €3,000 from INRAE and €12,754.17 from the European FEADER program (LEADER).
